Descending into San Juan de Ortega, the midday bells began to ring as I neared the village. This was a welcome site after a 12k trek from Villfranca Montes de Oca, the beginning of which was a beautiful walk through oak forests where once upon a time bandits hid and robbed unsuspecting pilgrims.
